On the Road to Normandy, and a little beyond, is a unique book about Bernard Upton’s life will be published in October 2017.
The book concentrates on Bernard's service in the Royal Navy throughout the Second World War. The highlights are his service on HMS Cromarty in 1943, including when they were mined in the Mediterranean on 23 October 1943. Bernard was the senior uninjured survivor and spent hours in the water leading his men.
Three days later he had to write a debrief of the incident to his Commander in Chief, which makes very interesting reading.
